POSITION SUMMARY

**The schedule for this position is expected to be 7a-3:30pm schedule, but open availability is required.**

The Materials Handler / Driver reports to the Senior Shipping Supervisor and partners closely with shipping, eCommerce, and production teams to carry out the movement of components and finished products in and around the EO Campus. This team member will support shipping functions to ensure that components, materials, and orders are received and shipped out in an accurate, timely, safe and efficient manner. Safety is the top priority in this position, and adherence to safety protocols and traffic rules is required along with acute awareness. 

This team member will also drive the company vehicle for the transport of inventory between the EO Campus buildings, as well as for infrequent trips in and around the San Francisco Bay Area. Employee must have and maintain a safe driving record in order to be able to shuttle pallets of goods between our locations.

This is 100% on-site role with driving requirements. Employee must be able to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Receiving and Shipping

  • Ensure that sales/transfer orders are picked, palletized and shipped accurately. Prioritize shipments as requested and/or by criteria specified by the Shipping Lead. Organize time and labor to ensure orders are picked to meet shipping deadlines up schedule
  • Communicate with Production and QC regarding production schedule, item release status. Follow shipping and receiving policies and procedures
  • Record necessary data associated with shipping and receiving, onto sales order and receipt paperwork. Record all inbound and outbound shipments in appropriate logbook

Inventory and Warehouse Management

  • Maintain accurate inventory control; including organization of warehouse
  • Work with the team to cycle count inventory as directed
  • Report “out of stocks” by communicating low or insufficient inventory levels with cross functional teams, including the Supply Chain department
  • Control and organize pallet locations of nonproduct (i.e. production supplies)
  • Support good housekeeping practices – maintain clean floors, keep aisles and foot-traffic lanes clear

Driving & Vehicle Maintenance

  • Complete pre-operational checklist and check that the vehicle’s mechanical, safety and emergency equipment is in good working order
  • Maneuver truck into loading or unloading positions following signals from loading crew while checking that vehicle and loading equipment are properly positioned
  • Collect delivery instructions from appropriate sources, verifying instructions and routes
  • Immediately report vehicle defects noticed at any time, or any accidents, traffic violations or damage incurred to the vehicle during operation
  • Perform basic vehicle maintenance tasks such as adding fuel according to company protocol
  • Complete intercampus-deliveries, to include:
    • Taking inventory and inspecting goods to be moved to determine quantities and conditions
    • Securing cargo for transport using ropes, blocks, chains, binders or covers
    • Checking all load-related documentation to ensure that it is complete and accurate
    • Using chocks to secure truck while loading and unloading
    • Operating any special equipment needed for successful loading/unloading/transit
  • Follow all California DMV rules regarding operation of a vehicle with a class C license, including (and not limited to):
    • speed limit adherence
    • use of seat belts
    • non-use of cell phone or other handheld device while driving
    • suggested uses of turn signals and defensive driving

Other

  • Ensure that all GMP’s (Good Manufacturing Practices) are followed
  • Support a safe working environment by following all safety protocols, and reporting any unsafe conditions or observed, unsafe conduct
  • Learn all aspects of Distribution including cross-training on Warehouse Worker II functions, including order picking, use of all material handling equipment across campus buildings, and the utilization of ERP and WMS systems
  • Perform other tasks and projects as directed by manager

SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS  

  • Ability to multitask, prioritize workload, and keep pace with warehouse needs
  • Good interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Intermediate English language proficiency required; bi-lingual in Spanish preferred but not required
  • Ability to achieve and maintain powered industrial truck / forklift certification
  • Ability to navigate directions
  • Ability to take initiative and collaborate with team members
  • Ability to get along with people at all levels and consistently promote a positive team environment 
  • Good math and written communication skills
  • Ability to work with software programs and technology involved in shipping, distribution, and warehouse management

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Valid California Driver's License (Class C or above)
  • DMV records that meet company requirements
  • Previous certification as a forklift / powered industrial truck operator required with one year experience minimum operating experience
  • Previous experience driving 16’-24’ box trucks strongly preferred
  • Prior experience in GMP environment preferred but not required

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The employee must frequently have the ability to grasp, bend, walk, and sit. Lifting and/or moving up to 25 pounds is required frequently and 

lifting and/or moving up to 50 pounds is required occasionally. Must have the ability to operate objects, tools or controls, including for a vehicle or forklifts and electric pallet jacks. Must occasionally climb or balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch.

GENERAL WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works on a production floor or warehouse environment, and often works outside. The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and sometimes in high places, and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, ambient air, temperature extremes, fumes or airborne particles, traffic, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, but occasionally high.
