Job Description

Traveling Superintendent Responsibilities - Federal USACE Projects:
  • Oversee day-to-day operations on-site to ensure work is performed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with the project specifications and schedules.
  • Review and ensure compliance with government standards such as EM 385-1-1 Safety and Health Requirements.
  • Conduct regular site inspections, ensuring compliance with quality control plans, specifications, and safety standards.
  • Maintain and enforce the project's safety program in alignment with OSHA regulations and EM 385-1-1 standards.
  • Conduct daily safety meetings (tailgate/toolbox talks) and ensure the proper use of PPE and other safety measures on-site.
  • Schedule and supervise subcontractors to ensure all work is completed according to specifications and within the timeline.
  • Review subcontractor work for quality and adherence to project specifications.
  • Address any on-site issues with subcontractors, vendors, or labor to keep the project moving smoothly.
  • Coordinate with USACE project managers, contracting officers, and other federal representatives to ensure project goals are met.
  • Maintain and submit daily reports, job logs, timesheets, and quality control reports in compliance with USACE requirements.
  • Ensure all documentation related to inspections, safety, and quality control is up to date and accurate.
  • Monitor project progress and manage critical path activities to meet the established schedule.
  • Assist in tracking costs and managing project budgets, making sure work is completed within financial guidelines.
  • Address any delays or budget concerns proactively to avoid significant schedule or cost overruns.

The Successful Applicant

A successful Traveling Federal Superintendent:
  • Minimum of 5-10 years of experience as a Superintendent in the construction industry, with specific experience on federal or USACE projects.
  • Proven track record managing large-scale, multi-million-dollar projects for federal government agencies such as the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), GSA, NAVFAC, or VA.
  • Must have a current OSHA 30 certification.
  • Must hold First Aid/CPR certification.
  • USACE Construction Quality Management (CQM) Certification is required or must be obtained within the first 90 days of employment.
  • Government security clearances (or ability to obtain clearance) may be required based on the project.
  • Experience with the USACE Three-Phase Quality Control System and implementation on federal projects.
  • In-depth knowledge of OSHA and EM 385-1-1 safety standards, as well as best practices for maintaining site safety on federal job sites.
  • Skilled in subcontractor management, scheduling, and coordination of resources across multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Willingness to travel extensively, as required by the project, including working in remote locations
  • Flexibility to relocate or stay on-site for extended periods, depending on project needs.
  • Must be able to pass background checks and meet the security clearance requirements specific to federal projects.
  • Familiarity with government security protocols and ability to ensure compliance with all federal contracting regulations.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and navigate construction sites.
  • Physically able to perform tasks such as standing for long periods, lifting, climbing ladders, and working in various field environments
