Job Description
This full-time position plays a critical role in supporting Zoo New England's mission through the creation of compelling design work that resonates and engages with target audiences through a variety of platforms. The ideal candidate is a self-motivated team player capable of producing original ideas and content with strong knowledge of graphic fundamentals, typography and design layout used in multiple mediums. This position requires a candidate who is detail-oriented, has a keen eye for aesthetic quality, and is able to adeptly multi-task while working on multiple projects across departments.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Work closely with ZNE team members to brainstorm, conceptualize and create new design campaigns and/or elements. Designs may be used for print or digital distribution, including but not limited to: signage, digital ads and displays, website and social media, logos, billboards, banners, brochures, direct mail, flyers, e-newsletters, the annual report, gala and other event materials, and more.
- Ensure consistency and a cohesive look and feel for how logos, fonts, colors and other branding elements should be displayed and used.
- Provide clear communication and work cross-collaboratively with Zoo departments from project conception to completion.
- Work with freelance designers, printers and outside agencies on various projects, and ensure adherence to guidelines, timelines, deliverables and budget.
- Support priorities set by the Vice President of Marketing & Communications

Minimum Job Requirements
- High proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop in particular)
- Demonstrated ability to multitask, prioritize and manage projects with varying design specifications, tight timelines, and budgets
- Ability to maintain a schedule of multiple projects and tasks, including deliverables and timelines, collaborating and communicating status with internal and external teams to deliver designs on time and on budget
- Ability to accept team feedback constructively, reacting quickly to new information, opinions, and direction, and revising designs when necessary
- Ability to edit images and design assets quickly and efficiently
- Familiarity with current visual design trends and how to apply them
- Knowledge of accessible design
- Knowledge of photo and font usage rights
- Excellent organization and project management skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Minimum of three years of experience in the graphic design industry
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in graphic arts, design or related field preferred
- Commitment to the mission of Zoo New England
Preferred Job Requirements
- Previous experience at a nonprofit, cultural institution or attraction a plus
- Familiarity and understanding of the different materials available for print projects and installation
Hours: The Graphic Designer's typical scheduled hours will be Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. There will be times when the Graphic Designer will be required to work early mornings and evenings, and occasional weekends.
